You cannot delete a Google Maps review yourself. Only the reviewer, or Google when the review breaks its user-contributed content policies after a report and review, can remove it. An honest negative review is not removed for being negative, so your way through it is a professional reply and new genuine reviews.

## What Google removes

- Fake engagement and spam: reviews not based on a real experience, repeated reviews from one account, paid or coordinated reviews.
- Off-topic content: rants about politics or issues unrelated to the experience at that place.
- Conflicts of interest: reviews written by the owner or staff about their own business, or by a competitor about a rival.
- Harassment, hate speech and profanity aimed at people.
- Personal information, impersonation, and illegal or sexually explicit content.

## What Google does not remove

- A negative review that describes a real experience, even an exceptional one.
- A one-star rating without text, unless it is part of fake engagement.
- A review from someone you cannot find in your records; not knowing the customer is not proof of a fake review.

## How to report a review

1. Sign in with the account that manages the Business Profile and find your business on Google Search or in the Google Maps app.
2. Open the reviews, tap the three dots next to the review and choose to report it.
3. Pick the most accurate violation type and submit.
4. Track the report in Google's Reviews Management Tool, where you can also ask Google to reconsider a decision once, with better evidence.

## If the report is rejected

1. Reply publicly and calmly, apologise for the experience and move the conversation to a private channel.
2. Resolve the issue offline; afterwards you may politely ask the customer to update the review, with no incentive.
3. Grow genuine reviews from satisfied customers so one review stops being the first impression.
4. If the review is defamatory, consult a lawyer. Saudi Arabia's Anti-Cyber Crime Law covers defamation through technology, and Google has a separate process for legal removal requests.

## Mistakes that make it worse

- Aggressive or sarcastic replies, or revealing the customer's details.
- Buying positive reviews to bury a negative one; it violates policy and can lead to mass removals.
- Paying anyone who guarantees review removal; only Google can remove reviews.

SMTAK does not remove reviews. It alerts you the moment a low rating arrives, drafts a professional reply in your brand voice for your approval, and by default does not auto-publish replies to one-to-three-star reviews; a critical review always waits for a person.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I delete a bad review from my business myself?

No. Owners cannot delete reviews. Only the reviewer, or Google after a report shows a policy violation, can remove it.

### How long does Google take to review a report?

There is no fixed time; usually a few days, sometimes longer. Track it in the Reviews Management Tool and appeal once if needed.

### Are there companies that guarantee review removal?

No one outside Google can remove reviews. A guarantee of removal is a warning sign.
