Google asks for nothing extra for your page to appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode in its search: it says the page must be indexed and eligible to be shown with a snippet, and that the same SEO fundamentals apply, including keeping your Business Profile information up to date. As for ChatGPT, Gemini and others, they do not publish how they pick local businesses, and no one can promise you will appear.

Many people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Mode "where is the best cafe in Khobar?" instead of searching the traditional way. The natural question for an owner: how do I appear in these answers? This guide separates what Google says in its official documentation for websites from what is unknown about other engines. The source is Google Search Central's page "AI features and your website" as we read it on 20 October 2026. We quote it in its English words and explain in Arabic.

## What Google says, in its words

### 1. No additional requirements

> There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary.

In short: you need no special step to appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode. The page adds that SEO best practices remain relevant for these features.

### 2. The only technical requirement

> a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet, fulfilling the Search technical requirements. There are no additional technical requirements.

In short: to be a supporting link in these features a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet. No other technical requirements. If your pages are not indexed, are blocked by robots.txt or are barred from snippets, those are the first things to fix.

### 3. No guarantee

> Just because a page meets all requirements, best practices, and complies with the policies, doesn't mean that Google will crawl, index, or serve its content. Indexing and serving isn't guaranteed.

In short: meeting the requirements does not mean Google will crawl, index or show your page. Indexing and serving are not guaranteed, so do not believe anyone who promises you appearance.

### 4. No AI-specific files and no special markup

> You don't need to create new machine readable files, AI text files, or markup to appear in these features. There's also no special schema.org structured data that you need to add.

In short: you need no AI text files, no special markup and no special schema.org structured data to appear in these features.

### 5. The fundamentals Google recommends

From the list of fundamentals the page gives:

> Making sure that important content is available in textual form

> Checking that your Merchant Center and Business Profile information is up-to-date

In short: put what matters as visible text on the page, not only in an image or a clip, and check that your Business Profile information is up to date. This agrees with the checklist in the [Google Business Profile audit](https://smtak.com/en/blog/google-business-profile-completeness-audit.md).

### 6. The "query fan-out" technique

> Both AI Overviews and AI Mode may use a "query fan-out" technique

> issuing multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources

In short: Google may issue several related searches on subtopics and data sources when building an answer. The page does not say how to optimise for it. Our reading, not Google's: customers' questions about your business branch out (hours, prices, location, services), so a page that answers them in clear text helps any reader.

### 7. Measurement

Google says sites that appear in these features are counted in overall search traffic in Search Console, and reported in the Performance report under the "Web" search type. This page does not describe a separate report in detail.

## What Google does not say

The page is addressed to site owners. It does not explain how local business results are chosen in Maps or in smart answers, and it promises no business will appear. Local ranking has its own page naming relevance, distance and prominence, which says there is no way to request or pay for a better ranking. That is covered in [do review replies lift your local ranking?](https://smtak.com/en/blog/how-google-reviews-impact-local-seo.md).

## ChatGPT, Gemini and others: what we do not know

Other answer engines do not publish how they recommend local businesses, and there is no announced threshold of average stars or review count that guarantees appearance. Any numbers of that kind are guesses. These engines may rely on different sources and change fast, so do not build your plan on a system we cannot see.

## What you can do with confidence

1. Accurate, consistent data: the same name, address, phone and hours in your Google profile, your website and your accounts. Google says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up in local search results.
2. A complete profile: the most precise category, services and items, attributes and recent photos.
3. Genuine, continuing reviews from all customers, with nothing in return and no picking. Create the link in the [Google review link and QR tool](https://smtak.com/en/tools/google-review-link.md).
4. Clear replies that mention the service or item the customer talked about in natural language, since they help any reader, human or machine, understand what you offer. The steps are in [replying to Google Maps reviews](https://smtak.com/en/blog/replying-to-google-maps-comments-saudi-dialect.md).
5. A page on your website that explains your business, branches and hours in clear text, and can be indexed.

## A checklist for your website

1. Is crawling allowed in robots.txt and by your hosting?
2. Are your important pages linked to each other with internal links?
3. Is the important information (hours, address, services) visible text?
4. If you use structured data, does it match the visible text? (Google advises that.)
5. Have you verified your site in Search Console to find technical problems?
6. Is your Business Profile information up to date?

## What we do not promise

We do not promise that ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Mode will mention you. SMTAK helps you reply to every review and collect reviews by legitimate means, but it does not control what answer engines choose, and no one can promise you will appear in them.
