How to Rank Higher on Google Maps in Saudi Arabia: Local Ranking Factors and a Plan

SMTAK EngineeringPublished Updated Reading time: 2 min read

When someone searches for a restaurant or clinic nearby, Google first shows a small set of businesses on the map, and most clicks go to them. Here is how Google says it picks them, and what you can actually improve.

How Google ranks local results

  • Relevance: how well your Business Profile matches the search.
  • Distance: how far you are from the searched location, or from the searcher.
  • Prominence: how well known your business is, including information from across the web, your review count and rating, and how your website performs in search.

Google states that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Ads appear in separate placements and do not lift organic ranking.

Improve relevance

  • Choose the most precise primary category, and add secondary categories only for real services.
  • Use your real-world business name; adding keywords to the name violates Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended.
  • Complete the description, services, products or menu, attributes and accurate hours, including special hours for Ramadan and holidays.

Get distance right

  • Match your address to your national address and place the pin at the right entrance.
  • Service-area businesses should hide the address and set a service area instead of using a fake address.
  • One profile per real branch, never profiles for places where you have no branch.

Build prominence

  • Collect reviews from all customers steadily and reply to all of them.
  • Add recent, real photos and regular updates.
  • Keep your name, address and phone consistent across your profile, website, delivery apps and directories.
  • A fast mobile website with a page per branch or main service.

Measure progress

Use the Business Profile performance report (search terms, calls, direction requests, website clicks), track rankings for key phrases from several points in the city, and review each branch's new reviews and response rate monthly. Real improvements usually take weeks to show.

SMTAK covers the prominence work that needs daily attention: per-branch review monitoring, approved replies in your brand voice, compliant review campaigns, rank tracking for chosen phrases against nearby competitors, and instant alerts for low ratings.
